I’m Shaima Ahli, an Emirati ceramics artist whose journey began unexpectedly in Montreal, Quebec. While learning French before pursuing my Master’s in Public Health at Boston University, I stumbled upon pottery in the summer of 2014. Under the guidance of French master potter Catherine Auriol, I discovered the joy of wheel throwing and crafting functional ceramics.

Returning to Dubai to work at the Ministry of Health, I felt a calling to explore hand-building techniques and abstract wall installations with porcelain clay. In 2021, I moved to Dammam and opened Kleos Ceramics Studio, where I create large vases and unique wall pieces. I’m passionate about sharing this art form, so I also train my staff to offer pottery workshops, bringing people together and fostering a love for ceramics in our community.

My background in public health has always drawn me to hands-on work, and pottery feels like a natural extension of that. It’s a practice that not only allows me to express myself but also creates connections among people.

Each piece I craft is infused with love and the emotions I experience during the process, offering a refreshing alternative to mass-produced, soulless items.

Bringing joy to others has been a driving force in my career, whether in healthcare or ceramics.
